The Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) presented artshow ‘Lost in Translation’ as part of the Collateral Events of the 55th Venice Biennale.
Selected works of contemporary Russian art explored the inherent untranslatability of culture-and context-dependent works in an age of globalisation.
The exhibition brought together over one hundred works made in the past forty years from the collection of MMOMA and other public and private collections.
The event took place at the Ca’ Foscari University on the Grand Canal.
The exhibition’s design was restrained and made to resemble a collector’s home rather than a museum space.
Some of the artworks were made specialy for the show. One of those is a mural by Oleg Kulik.
On the day of the opening there also was a long-awaited performance by Oleg Kulik entitled ‘Vosparenie’ (Ascension) for which a special transparent steam room was created.
