Blazar Young Art Fair

Artshows

The sixth edition of the Blazar Young Art Fair presented more than 2 000 works by artists and designers

The fair took place on three floors of the former warehouses which now belong to The Museum of Moscow: the first floor housed the digital zone, the second floor was dedicated to object design, and the third floor welcomed independent artists and galleries.

The museum halls where Blazar was located are strictly limited by colonnades. It was crucial for us to avoid visual overload as well as to separate the flow of visitors, so we chose the classic fair model with exhibition sections located along the central row of columns and outer walls.

In order to avoid the monotony of this design, we paid special attention to the rhythmic pattern of the stands, and also varied their scale.

These solutions were expressed in the irregular structure of the exhibition showcases and in the partitions which were reminiscent of giant office folders with neon Post-It notes.

The construction was based on the materials that had been preserved from the previous editions of the fair. Sustainability is one of Blazar’s key values, and we moved in accordance with this principle. The pallets and podiums in the design section and the independent artists section are covered with industrial shrink wrap. The use of this material refers to the appearance of the packaging in which art is stored. What is hidden behind the plastic shell is yet to be discovered by both Blazar visitors and the young authors themselves, who are constantly developing their creativity.

We have also added another medium: fabric was used to separate the stands in the design section. The canvases in Blazar’s signature colors not only soften the industrial interior of the site, but also hide from the viewer’s eyes the visual noise that inevitably appears during the dynamic life of the fair.

After the fair, fabrics and constructions will be moved to the warehouse, and the wrap is sent to the recycling center, which allows for a partial compensation of the budget.
